DIANE DWYER: Take a look at these pictures from chopper 11. A home catches fire in the South Bay. Good evening, I'm Diane Dwyer and that's the top story in the first 11 minutes tonight. A thick cloud of black smoke could be seen for miles as the home burned this afternoon.

DIANE DWYER: It happened on Solomon Court in South San Jose and NBC 11 Charlotte Fadipe has been following the story. She joins us now. Charlotte?
CHARLOTTE FADIPE: Diane, you know the family's six-month-old Maltese puppy is still missing tonight and obviously the owners are very concerned about the animal. But when you look at this video, you'll probably agree, it's incredible anyone escaped the dramatic flames.
Chopper 11 caught these dramatic pictures as a South Bay home burst into flames. Lowell Sullivan, who owns the house, says his wife and kids were in the backyard when the fire started about six o'clock tonight.
The thick black smoke could be seen for miles and his house on Solomon Court in South San Jose was destroyed. Sullivan says the fire may have started in a car in his garage and it quickly spread to the house.
Well tonight investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the fire. They say a response time of five to six minutes is well within their guidelines.
One of the main priorities of course was to prevent the fire from spreading to other homes. They were able to do that. Sadly though, the family pet, a white Maltese pup, is still missing. Diane?
